Bring back WTV support in Windows 8.1 Video Player

Even if Media Center does not evolve along with Windows 8/8.1 and beyond, it would still be beneficial and imperative for current and future versions of Windows to be able to playback Windows Media Center WTV files/videos.
I, as well as many other users have adopted Windows Media Center along with Xbox Media Center Extender as our sole DVR and cable television system.
Now, there is no Extender support for anything other than the Xbox 360 and that leave me with a Surface 2 that I can not use to playback my stored recordings.

Seems like a no-brainer to, at minimum, add playback support of previously recorded WMC files to the base Windows Media Center functionality.

(Of course, my preference would be to also add DVD playback functionality to WMP, let any Windows machine be an WMC Extender, and also to add WMC back as a base function to Windows)
